The unforgiveable blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is not in words per se, but in a heart that is categorically incapable of recognizing the Holy Spirit for who he is when encountering him face to face. The inability to recognize is a result of that soul's essential non-being.

Those envious religious authorities did not say what they said because some demon on an impulse coaxed words out of their mouths that they didn't really mean. No, their own darkened souls really meant those words because they are without essential being and could not recognize Being for Who He Is.

God knows your soul didn't mean those words, so just keep on repenting of the demon that made you say them. This is over 4 years after your original comment, but I sincerely hope and trust you will find the forgiveness.

So you would pull that warm 'n' fuzzy blanket up over yourself in defiance of Jesus' own faithful words?

All sins are "equal" in the sense that they are all disobedience of one sort or another. However, Jesus and the Apostles made it very plain they are NOT all of equal gravity, no way all "blasphemy of the Holy Spirit," and Jesus made it as clear as he possibly could that the particular sin he called the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, unlike other types of sin, is without forgiveness. If you understood the nature of this particular sin, you would understand why he says that, and you would kick off that blanket of self-assuasion.

How do you "forgive" anything for its essential non-being? How do you "forgive" someone claiming to be your beloved for utterly failing to recognize you, when you are face to face undisguised, but instead thinking you are the ultimate Evil?

Every sin is blasphemy against the Holy spirit.“For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.” (Bible, New testament, James 2:10)So blasphemy against the holy spirit is forgiven along with all sins because Jesus died for you you will go to Heaven. My words of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit are credited to Jesus Christ. And Jesus Christ's words are credited to me.

Jesus Christ is the only one who has to wory about the punishment for blasphemy against the holy spirit. It is good news for me and bad news for Jesus Christ.

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I think you misquoted some Scripture where you wrote: "But whosoever shall deny me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God.”

Thank you for this post, I enjoyed it. Praise God!

The Sin without forgiveness:

To be the one sin categorically incapable of being forgiven, this Sin has to be categorically unlike any other. It cannot be assessed in terms of hurt to another -- no matter who that other is. It cannot be assessed in terms of any action or words. No, all injury to others, all external words and actions belong to the temporal order, and anything in the temporal order, by its very nature, is capable of being forgiven.

Jesus indicated, in the strongest terms imaginable, that the sin without forgiveness is so called because it is assessed in the eternal order -- i.e., not in the dimension of temporal words and actions and their effects, but in the dimension of the most basic spiritual capacity for receptivity to Who He Is.

It goes right back to Gen. 1, 2, where God reaches into the absolute void to bring forth his creation. That which responds to his voice calling it forth, thereby has being. Where there is negative response, there is no being, period.

The sin without forgiveness brands the heart as being of that aboriginal void incapable of responding to the all-creating voice of the One. To look upon the Holy Spirit, its presence and operations, and call it 'the prince of devils' -- or any other term connoting the ultimate Negative -- is itself the ultimate negative, the ultimate denial. It demonstrates a categorical incapacity to recognize and love God for Who He Is.

Watch today's attitudes and vocabulary for indications of this irredeemably negative state of being, which in Jesus' day was evidenced by calling the Spirit 'prince of demons'. Foremost among them is looking upon someone who manifests the Holy Spirit and calling that person "mentally ill" or "insane" -- today's equivalents to calling someone demon-possessed.

The sin without forgiveness is not in the words themselves, nor any hurt they may cause to others, but in what they reveal about your own capacity for recognizing and loving God for Who He Is.

I have a Church of Christ friend and we were discussing this episode in the scriptures, regarding Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, and his conclusion was the same as above, that it cannot be committed because of Christ's physical abscents.

I tend to disagree, because the 'blasphemy' (as noted above) was not aimmed at Christ, but rather the Holy Spirit. The actual blasphemy was the accusation that the Holy Spirit was 'of' demonic origins, or beelzebub.

If I am correct, then this means that means that such blasphemy is still possible today in our time, as the Holy Spirit still works in the lives of men.

Doubly so if we agree that any spiritual (or Spiritual) gift is excercised in the power of the Holy Spirit, because someone could in fact accuse your usage of that gift to be by the power of demonic persuasion, just as they did Christ.
